Six Wolves

At least six wolves were the ancestors of all modern dogs, claimed Dr Deborah Lynch at the March 13th, 2004 American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting. The Grey Asian wolf is the most likely culprit and the descending modern dogs can be grouped into 10 basic types from "sight hounds" (greyhounds) to "toy dogs" (maltese, etc.)

Editorial Comment: What's most interesting is the idea of "at least six ancestral wolves". Genesis records the clean animals went on Noah's Ark in sevens and one was sacrificed after the flood, leaving at least six. So Noah didn't need to take two of each present day dog species at all. Today's dogs have become unclean animals (those which scavenge) but they started as plant eaters (Genesis 130). (Ref. dogs, kind, species)
